Vehicle shipping FAQ
Clear answers before you book
Understand TFI's broker role, the information behind a quote, and what to expect from pickup through delivery.
Is TFI Trans a carrier or a broker?
TFI Trans Inc is an FMCSA-authorized property broker, not the motor carrier that physically transports your vehicle. We arrange transportation with an independent authorized motor carrier and coordinate the shipment through delivery.
How does TFI qualify a motor carrier?
TFI's Terms require motor carriers to hold valid FMCSA operating authority, maintain required insurance, avoid an Unsatisfactory safety rating, and comply with applicable federal and state laws.
Is the price guaranteed when I submit the form?
Submitting the form is a quote request, not a booking or price guarantee. TFI reviews the route, vehicle, timing, equipment, and available carrier capacity before confirming shipment details and pricing.
Can I specify a delivery date when ordering?
Yes — you can request a specific delivery date and we'll do our best to accommodate it. We can't guarantee exact dates due to weather and road conditions, but we prioritize getting your shipment as close to your desired timeframe as possible.
Should I choose open or enclosed transport?
Open transport is a practical choice for most everyday vehicles. Enclosed transport adds protection from road debris and weather exposure and is often selected for collector, restored, prototype, high-value, or low-clearance vehicles.
What if my vehicle does not run?
Tell TFI before the quote is confirmed. An inoperable vehicle may require a winch or other equipment and clear loading access, which can affect carrier fit and pricing.
What payment methods are supported?
We accept cash, Zelle, personal checks, cashier's checks, and money orders. We do not accept credit cards at this time.
Can I send personal items inside the vehicle?
Personal-item policies can vary by motor carrier and shipment. Items may affect weight, safety, and available coverage and are generally discouraged. Ask TFI what the assigned carrier allows before loading anything in the vehicle.
What should I do if I notice damage at delivery?
Inspect the vehicle at delivery, record any exception on the Bill of Lading before signing when possible, take clear photos, preserve all documents, and contact the motor carrier and TFI promptly. The governing Terms contain the formal notice and claims requirements.
How will I receive shipment updates?
TFI coordinates shipment communication using the contact details provided for the order. The exact update method and timing depend on the shipment and assigned motor carrier; ask your TFI contact what to expect when the order is confirmed.
